It all started during summer break in 2021. My sister and I wanted a sleepover with friends, but Mum and Dad said our house wasn’t big enough. We convinced them to let us sleep in the garage.
We used old tents and camping stuff to make the garage cosy. Then, Mum took us on a huge shopping trip and turned the garage into a magical Pink Ballerina sleepover!
We had so much fun that we wanted to do it again, creating themes for other kids to enjoy. We had different ideas (I was 12, and my sister was 8). I liked “Harry Potter,” and she liked “Babies Picnic.”
Luckily, our parents own a software company, so we worked with designers to make a logo and build a website. We turned our garage into a studio and shopped for fun kid stuff.
Mum and Dad let us make decisions, but reminded us to keep things clean, safe, and useful. We even tried sewing! We took photos, and my sister practised talking to customers.
After a busy month, we were ready! We wanted kids to feel like we gave them the “Perfect Sleepover”—a magical space with fun activities and special touches.
Our birthdays are close together, so a few months later, we wanted to try something new: picnics. We got sturdy picnic tables and decorated them with cosy cushions and rugs, creating our first perfect picnic.
Life got busy, and with COVID, we stored everything away for a while. But in 2024, I turned 15 and wanted to get more involved in the business.
With our birthdays coming up, I wanted a creative way to entertain my friends and keep them off their phones. So, I had a “Cooking Party.” It was amazing! Everyone had fun cooking and eating unique pizzas and cookies at the picnic tables.
My sister needed more space, so we got a bell tent and decorated it with a cotton candy theme. There was room for the kids and peace for Mum and Dad.
We changed our business name from “My Perfect Sleepover” to “Making Parties Special” (but we still call it MPS). We’re excited to see what we’ll think of next! If you have an idea, let us know—maybe we can create your perfect birthday party too.
